Avalon International Breads is a Detroit artisan bakery founded in 1997, baking breads, pastries, and cafe fare for retail cafés and wholesale grocery and restaurant accounts.

Rising Pheasant Farms is an independently owned East Side Detroit urban farm growing vegetables and greenhouse microgreens for retail markets, CSA, and wholesale restaurant accounts.

Brother Nature Produce is a Corktown urban farm specializing in salad mixes and herbs, selling at Eastern Market and Season’s Market and supplying Detroit restaurants.

Keep Growing Detroit is a nonprofit founded in 2013 whose mission is to cultivate a food-sovereign city where the majority of fruits and vegetables Detroiters eat are grown by residents within the city. Through the Garden Resource Program, members across Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park receive seeds, Detroit-grown transplants, and technical support. Grown in Detroit connects member growers to market outlets including an online farm store, Eastern Market farmstand, and CSA-style access for produce, flowers, herbs, and honey grown without harmful chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, or GMOs. KGD Farm in the Eastern Market district supports education and hands-on learning.

Detroit People’s Food Co-op is a Black-led, community-owned grocery that opened in May 2024 at Detroit Food Commons (8324 Woodward) in the North End. The co-op emphasizes locally grown produce, prepared foods, and a member-ownership model; public reporting notes strong early sales, thousands of member-owners, and community events. The Food Commons campus also houses shared commercial kitchens (Kujichagulia Kitchens) supporting food entrepreneurs.

The Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MUFI) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Detroit’s North End that uses urban agriculture as a platform for education, sustainability, and community development. Its primary focus is redeveloping a multi-acre North End site as an urban agrihood with adaptive reuse of the built environment—positioning vacant land and food-security challenges as opportunities for community-supported agriculture and a broader redevelopment model.

Eastern Market Partnership is the nonprofit that stewards Detroit’s historic public market district—an iconic hub of community, culture, and commerce since the market’s move to Russell Street in 1891. The Partnership operates year-round Saturday markets and seasonal Sunday and Tuesday markets featuring local produce, flowers, prepared foods, and artisans, plus food-business resources such as the Shed 5 incubator kitchen. A wholesale market open for bulk purchases (Monday–Friday overnight seasonally) connects regional growers with restaurants, independent grocers, and other buyers; Shed 7 expands refrigerated wholesale distribution capacity for farmers and food businesses.

The Detroit Black Community Food Sovereignty Network (DBCFSN) is a grassroots nonprofit advancing Black food sovereignty, environmental justice, and community power in Detroit. Since 2008 it has operated D-Town Farm—more than seven acres inside Rouge Park’s Meyers Tree Nursery—where staff and volunteers grow 30+ fruits, vegetables, and herbs with sustainable, regenerative methods. Produce is sold at the farm and farmers markets; the Network also sponsors Detroit Food Commons and related cooperative work, including shared commercial kitchens.
