Food Access LA’s mission is to feed Los Angeles, support farmers, and be a partner in equitable food systems. Originally known as Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA), the nonprofit builds sustainable food systems so everyone has equitable access to fresh, affordable, locally grown foods. Each week its farmers’ markets across Los Angeles support small-scale agriculture and food and beverage entrepreneurs while improving food security in underserved neighborhoods. Programs include nutrition education, vendor support, Market Match and WIC coordination, and the eat! LOCAL Farm Box online ordering platform.

Launched in June 2005 and operated by Food Access LA, the Atwater Village Farmers’ Market is a Sunday certified market hosting more than two dozen Southern California producers, including organic farms such as Givens, Sunrise, McFarlin, Fruit Fairy, and Kenter Canyon Farms. Hot food and staple grocery items are available, with vegetarian and vegan options. The market is ADA compliant, offers a dining area and live music, partners with LA Compost for food-scrap drop-off, and accepts EBT with Market Match plus WIC and Senior FMNP checks.

The City of Santa Monica operates certified farmers markets, including the Downtown Farmers Market at Arizona Avenue. The Wednesday market, established in 1981, is widely recognized as one of the largest and most diverse certified farmers markets in the nation, featuring over 60 California farms and drawing local residents, visitors, and many of Los Angeles’ best-known chefs. The Saturday Downtown market, established in 1991, presents the largest percentage of certified organic growers among Santa Monica’s four markets, with over 40 farm stands adjacent to the Third Street Promenade. Markets run year-round, rain or shine (subject to holiday or extreme-condition closures), and all four city markets accept CalFresh EBT.

The South Gate Farmers Market offers fresh, locally grown produce, farm-fresh products, and a variety of local vendors every Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the northwest corner of Tweedy Boulevard and Pinehurst Avenue in South Gate Park. The market features California-grown crops and locally made foods, with EBT, Market Match, and WIC benefits accepted.

Altadena Farmers Market is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission centers on access to local produce, dignity and cultural inclusion, and circulating local dollars to support recovery and justice-driven food systems. After losing its Loma Alta Park host site, the organization transitioned to an online-only farmers market model connecting local farmers with consumers, alongside free produce distributions for fire survivors, fundraising, Eco-Hub development, and community-coalition work. The Village Market Place Food Hub, a social enterprise of Community Services Unlimited (CSU), consists of The Village Market Place Store, the SoulFul Café, a food distribution & commercial space, and an urban farm. Created in 2007 to meet demand for affordable, beyond-organic, culturally appropriate food in South Central Los Angeles, VMP aims to increase access to healthy local foods, create local jobs, and expand support for regional small farmers and local small business owners. The store offers seasonal produce, organic pantry items, vegan options, and natural body/home products; EBT shoppers receive a 75% discount on produce every day. A weekly produce-bag subscription program sources from CSU’s urban mini-farm and local farmers.

The Los Angeles Food Policy Council (LAFPC) is a collective impact organization uniting diverse stakeholders to build a healthy, fair, and sustainable food system. Through policy advocacy, innovative programming, network coordination, and capacity building, LAFPC drives systemic change and supports community-led solutions. By bridging grassroots efforts with policymaking, it strengthens local food economies, expands access to nutritious, culturally relevant food, and fosters collaboration across sectors. LAFPC coordinates 100+ organizations through working groups and alliances, with business programs that serve farmers and food-based businesses.

The Hollywood Farmers’ Market, founded in 1991 and operated by Food Access LA, is a certified Sunday market at the corner of Ivar & Selma Avenues. It hosts over 150 farmers, producers, food vendors, and artisans and is among the largest farmers markets in Los Angeles. Shoppers include neighborhood families and Southern California chefs. The market accepts EBT with Market Match (up to $15/week for fresh fruits and vegetables via GUSNIP and LA County ARP), plus WIC and Senior FMNP checks.
