Green City Market is securing the future of food by deepening support for sustainable farmers, educating our community, and expanding access to locally-grown food. Our year-round farmers' markets are centered around lifting up Midwest growers, promoting the environmental stewardship of land and responsible treatment of animals, and building a vibrant market for local, sustainably-produced food in Chicago.

61st Street Farmers Market, a program of Experimental Station, brings fresh, healthy food to Woodlawn and surrounding neighborhoods year-round by reducing barriers to access and offering hands-on food education. Launched in 2008 with the support of a dedicated group of volunteers, the Market has been a leader in Illinois in accepting and promoting SNAP/Link benefits at farmers markets.

A producers-only market run by the Village of Skokie — every vendor grows or makes what they sell themselves. Sunday mornings, late spring through fall, with over 80 vendors and dollar-for-dollar SNAP/Link matching up to $25.

The Hatchery Chicago is a nonprofit food and beverage incubator on the West Side with a ~67,000 sq ft facility offering shared and private commercial kitchens, storage, coworking, and entrepreneurship support for local founders. Allies for Community Business and ICNC opened the East Garfield Park facility around 2019 at 135 N Kedzie Ave, with financing access and programming for food entrepreneurs.

The Plant is a research and production facility comprising a collaborative community of small food businesses. The Plant is a project of Bubbly Dynamics. The Plant demonstrates techniques for reimagining waste as a resource, achieving economies of scale and incubating small businesses. The goal of The Plant is to create replicable models for efficiencies that close loops of waste and energy and to encourage others to implement these techniques to combat climate change.

Experimental Station’s mission is to build independent cultural infrastructure by providing essential resources that respond to local needs. Our programs address food insecurity, strengthen Illinois’ food system, provide youth with enriching educational opportunities, foster creativity and the arts, and enhance community wellbeing.

The SECC facilitates and supports economic development within the Southeast lakefront communities of Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, Washington Park, and Woodlawn. The South East Chicago Commission is the local non-profit Service Provider for Special Service Area #61 (Downtown Hyde Park Chicago).
