The City of Santa Monica operates certified farmers markets, including the Downtown Farmers Market at Arizona Avenue. The Wednesday market, established in 1981, is widely recognized as one of the largest and most diverse certified farmers markets in the nation, featuring over 60 California farms and drawing local residents, visitors, and many of Los Angeles’ best-known chefs. The Saturday Downtown market, established in 1991, presents the largest percentage of certified organic growers among Santa Monica’s four markets, with over 40 farm stands adjacent to the Third Street Promenade. Markets run year-round, rain or shine (subject to holiday or extreme-condition closures), and all four city markets accept CalFresh EBT.
