Tasa Coffee Roasters is an independent, Latina-owned, woman-forward café and roastery in Humboldt Park, Chicago. The business says it transforms green coffee into roasted coffee, blends, and brews, with a mission to provide locally roasted coffee mainly sourced from women-owned farms. Owner Jackie Marquez, a lifelong Chicagoan raised in Humboldt Park/Bucktown, holds a culinary arts associate’s degree (Illinois Institute of Art, 2017) and worked in Chicago restaurants before focusing on catering. Per the about page, Tasa began as an idea during COVID in early 2020 when Jackie and her husband Pierre discussed opening a café and roastery; they spent much of 2020 learning coffee history, culture, and production. Block Club Chicago reported the café opened September 2, 2022 at 4136 W. North Ave., with Jackie on food (including Cuban sandwiches and handmade empanadas) and Pierre roasting in-house (including a coconut-lavender iced latte). The name “Tasa” is derived from “cup” in Spanish. The couple renovated a long-vacant former T-Mobile storefront with help from the city’s Neighborhood Opportunity Fund.
