Shawn Michelle’s Homemade Ice Cream is a family-owned Chicago ice cream parlor known for hand-churned, old-fashioned flavors and warm Southern desserts. Owners Yahya and Nataki Muhammad built the brand around homemade ice cream that “takes you back down memory lane.” Yahya began churning ice cream in college at Western Illinois University; the business is named for his sister Shawn Michelle, a baker who encouraged him and was killed in a car crash in 1999. The Bronzeville shop sits at 46 E 47th St at the historic Rosenwald Courts.
