Build Coffee & Books is a Woodlawn community hub combining a coffee shop, bookstore, and gathering space on Chicago's South Side. Founded in 2017 and housed at Experimental Station, it serves thoughtfully sourced coffee and food alongside curated books and neighborhood programming.
Build began in 2017 when Bea Malsky and Hannah Nyhart sold iced coffee at the 61st Street Farmers Market before expanding into a brick-and-mortar cafe inside Experimental Station at 61st and Blackstone. In 2025, longtime collaborators Eve L. Ewing, trína reynolds-tyler, and Andrea Faye Hart took over as volunteer co-owners and relaunched the space as Build Coffee & Books—continuing its role as a third space for neighbors, organizers, artists, and students.
